Henriëtte “Hetty” Akker was born on February 8, 1928. Hetty was the daughter of Heiman and Judikje Akker. Heiman was a rabbi and a teacher. Hetty was Jewish as well. She was very smart and very sweet. She had four siblings. She was very close with her older sister, Carolina. She was heartbroken when her older brother, Izak, was deported to Auschwitz in 1942 and murdered. Six months later, the rest of her family suffered the same fate.
